“My interest in therapy first sparked while I was completing my undergrad in social work. I faced many life challenges at the time that caused my mental health to suffer. I finally got the courage to go to my first therapy session. While going to therapy, I discovered that I was able to express myself in a way I never was able to before. This helped me overcome the anxiety and negative emotions I constantly was dealing with. With this inspiration, I then completed my Master’s in social work at the University of Illinois Chicago with an internship as a school therapist. After my degree I worked as a child therapist in the city I love, Chicago. I worked on the south side and northwest side of Chicago, providing services within a high school and an elementary school. Since then I have taken my work outside of the school environment into the private sector. I have worked with children and adolescents with anger management, depression, childhood trauma, anxiety, school-based issues, adjustments, peer relationships, self esteem building and more. While at these schools, I was able to build rapport with students to a point that more than half my caseload became students comfortable enough to refer themselves to therapy services with me!”
Briana uses a variety of therapy and training to best fit her client’s needs. Theories and techniques she utilizes most are within the CBT, DBT, and play therapy frame. She feels that when working with youth it is important to include the parents in the process and blend play therapy with talk therapy for a best outcome.
Briana was born in Burbank Illinois and now resides in Oak Forest, Illinois. In her free time she likes to garden, go to concerts, and spend quality time with her sisters.
